Eastern Michigan University Appoints Interim President

Current Provost and Vice President Kim Schatzel will take the helm temporarily starting in the summer.

EMU Provost and Vice President Kim Schatzel will take on the school’s top job until the Board of Regents can find a long-term replacement for outgoing President Susan Martin. Martin will step down from the position on July 7th, after serving as president for seven years. She was also the university’s first female president and its longest serving.  She will take a one year sabbatical when she leaves this summer and will return as an accounting professor.

Vice President Schatzel joined EMU after serving as the dean of the business college at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She also worked for more than 20 years in the private sector. The university’s eight member board will conduct the search for a new president. A search advisory committee will include regents, donors, students, faculty, and alumni.
