Construction Starting on Lodge Exit Ramp

Crews will replace the crash barriers on the ramp connecting the Lodge to M-8

Highway Crash Barrier

The ramp connecting the Lodge to westbound M-8 near Highland Park will close for a few weeks while workers install new crash barriers. Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Diane Cross says the current guard rail is due to be replaced. She says the new barriers are designed to better disperse the impact from an accident.

“We are regularly having to do a lot of repair to the guard rail. So what we’re going to do is we’re gonna go in there and put in a different type of barrier which will help us from having to come out there quite so frequently. So it’ll be a money saver, it’ll make it a safe area, and ultimately save us some money in maintenance.”

Cross says after finishing work on the Lodge, crews plan to replace the crash barrier on the service drive between I-75 and 8 Mile Road. She says she expects the Lodge construction to last three weeks.
