Design, Weather Delay Completion Of New Fort Street Bridge

Work started almost two years ago. MDOT says it should be finished by mid-June.

Fort Street Bridge

The Michigan Department of Transportation says it’s taking longer than expected to replace the Fort Street (M-85) bridge over the Rouge River in southwest Detroit. MDOT closed the nearly 100-year-old drawbridge in 2013. A new lift bridge was supposed to be open by the end of last year. But MDOT spokeswoman Diane Cross tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller that the project has encountered several delays and won’t be finished until mid-June.

Want to know when a construction project might affect your commute? MDOT offers updates on its MIDrive web site. Diane Cross also says a free app is also now available on Google and iTunes.
