Transportation Security Officers and the American Federation of Government Employees are asking to beef up security at checkpoints in airports across the nation. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell joined the rally at Detroit Metro Airport. Dingell says officers at the facility asked for her support in bringing in more security to protect employees and travelers.

“That is something I think is basic in security that we need to have that front line security,” Dingell said.  “If we see something happen that unfortunately we have seen happen at these other airports. These are hard working men and women who work hard to keep all of us safe as we’re flying the skies and today we are here to support them.”

The rally comes in the aftermath of a recent attack in a New Orleans airport last month.
