The First Arab American National Museum Celebrates Ten Years of Culture

Museum

In 2005, members of the Arab community in the United States came together with one goal: to open the first museum dedicated to Arab American culture in the country.  Ten years later, the Arab American National Museum celebrates its anniversary as the only Smithsonian affiliate in Southeast Michigan.  The institution boasts several exhibitions that tour nationally.   WDET’s Martina Guzman visited the museum and spoke with Devon Akemon, the Executive Director of The Arab American National Museum.  He tells WDET’s Martina Guzman about the challenges of opening the museum in a post 9/11 world.
