The Jazz Master: Honoring Dr. Teddy Harris, Jr.
The Carr Center Legacy concert honors a Detroit icon.
“He was the teacher. He was the guy who stayed in town, stayed in Detroit, and continued to nurture the talent.”
Oliver Ragsdale Jr., President of the Carr Center for the Arts
A pianist, soprano saxophonist, composer and arranger, Dr. Teddy Harris, Jr. (1934-2005) was many things. With direction credits with Motown legends The Supremes and The Temptations, he earned his keep on the Detroit Jazz circuit, later representing Bill Clinton as a Jazz Master and Cultural Ambassador. The Carr Center is honoring Teddy Harris, Jr. in part of their Legacy Concert Series. Oliver Ragsdale, Jr. sits down with WDET’s Travis Wright to talk about the incredible influence of Harris.
