Lions Re-sign Record-setting Kicker

Lions resign Record Setting Kicker Matt Prater

Most NFL teams are preparing to scour the free agent market for new players.

But the Detroit Lions have already locked up the man who kicked the longest field goal in the history of the league.

Kicker Matt Prater set an NFL record with a 64-yard field goal in 2013 as a member of the Denver Broncos.

But he fell out of favor with Denver after serving a four-game suspension at the start of last season for violating the NFL’s alcohol policy.

He then signed mid-year with Detroit, which had suffered through problems finding a consistent kicking game after long-time Lion Jason Hanson retired two years ago.

Prater missed two of the first three field goals he attempted for Detroit, then only missed two others the rest of the season.

He’s now signed to a three-year contract with Detroit reportedly worth about $9 million.
