How To Handle Our Racist Perceptions: Personal Decisions Are Cornerstone Of Racism, Classism
Sharon E. Davis is an expert who says dialogue should be encouraged and more honest between people to help heal racism.
Part 1
“People are often confused about why they or others have racist thoughts”. According to Sharon E. Davis that’s a starting point to open dialogue about racial healing. Davis is the author of “A Safe Place to Talk About Race”. Her interest in racial healing began when she moved from Michigan to Houston, Texas in the 80’s. That’s where she and a group of like minded people organized the first “Institute for Healing of Racism”. Now Davis spends time at corporations and in communities help facilitate conversations about the dynamics of racism. WDET’s Amy Miller spoke with Davis who says for decades people have been choosing to avoid the topic.

Part 3
People tend to make assumptions about others based on looks and our experiences. But, the more information we have about one another the more we trust each other. How do looks, experience and knowledge also lead to stereotyping races and classes of people? In this second part of a conversation between WDET’s Amy Miller and Sharon E. Davis, author of “A Safe Place to Talk About Race” we hear explanations of overt and subtle racism and classism among people and in the workplace. Davis says personal decisions are the cornerstone to racism and classism.
