New Show Alert: WDET’s “The Don Was Motor City Playlist” Spotlights Detroit Music and Deep Cuts

WDET’s Ann Delisi will produce and co-host “The Don Was Motor City Playlist,” which will start airing April 16.

There’s a new show coming to WDET. Blue Note Records President and music industry powerhouse Don Was is launching a weekly program called The Don Was Motor City Playlist.” The new show debuts on Friday, April 16 on WDET and will feature deep cuts from Was’ musical archives along with personal stories about the artists whose songs Was will feature.

The show will pay homage to the Motor City and artists beloved by Was.

Ann Delisi will co-host and produce the Don Was Motor City Playlist. She’s the host of Essential Music with Ann Delisi as well as the Essential Conversations and Essential Cooking podcasts.

Delisi interviewed Was about the new show, and he shared his long desire to be part of the WDET team. 

“I wanted to be on WDET since about 1969,” says Was. “I said that’s all I want to do, is play music in bars and come into WDET and play cool music.”

“There’s no better place for him,” says Delisi. “And the fact that he listened to WDET since like 1969, it’s part of his DNA.” 

She also talks about WDET’s commitment to Detroit artists and its music. “We have had a consistent and passionate desire, to create a space for people that make music here,” says Delisi.
