Tribute from Jack Lennox

SUBMITTED BY: Jack Lennox

During high school in the early 70’s in addition to my dedication to rock, r&b, soul, roots, Americana and other genres, I was a dedicated jazz fan as were all of my close mates. We were also dedicated fans and students of Ed. Years went by and after becoming an orthopedic surgeon, I volunteered my time and efforts to orthopedic surgery in Bhutan through Orthopedic Overseas. When we were there in 2001 they only had the internet for a few years but luckily we were able to stream Ed’s magical voice and jazz talents half a globe away to feel at home.

A few years later yet I personally met Ed at my church, First United Methodist Church Birmingham, when he introduced Marian McPartland at our beloved music festival. I’m sure he wouldn’t remember our conversation but ironically he had just recovered from spine surgery of which I made note in discussion with him as goosebumps appeared putting THAT VOICE with that face in person. What a highlight!!

Happy Everything Ed !! You mean so much to so many !!
