Planned Parenthood’s Advocacy Arm Wants Michigan Candidates to Speak Up in 2020

A $45 million national campaign from Planned Parenthood’s advocacy arm will push candidates to affirm a Constitutional right to abortion access, and Michigan will be a focus.

Michigan is one of the states targeted in a national $45 million campaign led by the advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood. The goal is to support candidates who speak up for reproductive rights.

Like in some other states, Michigan has seen a wave of legal and legislative challenges to abortion.

“The time may be right to offer the residents of Michigan to make their intent known.” – Lori Carpetier, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan

Lori Carpetier, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan says this wave comes as polls show more support for safe, accessible abortions than ever before.

“The time may be right to offer the residents of Michigan to make their intent known,” says Carpetier on abortion access. She says if Michigan affirms the right to legal abortion at a state-level, it would make it one less political battleground if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns standing precent on abortion access.
