The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan is celebrating its 50th anniversary.  The Pontiac-based non-profit takes furniture donations and then offers beds, tables and other items to families who need them.  Robert Boyle is the Furniture Bank’s Executive Director.  Boyle says his organization’s mission is to provide essential furniture to families in need.

When most people think of basic needs, they think of food, clothing and shelter.  But if your child doesn’t have a bed to sleep in, or if you don’t have a dining table to share a meal on, what kind of life is that?” says Boyle.

An anonymous donor has challenged the non-profit to raise $5,000 in the next few weeks with a matching grant.  Boyle says if the Furniture Bank reaches its goal, it will provide 50 beds with sheets and blankets to children in Southeast Michigan.
