Baltimore Activist’s Lessons On “Food Apartheid” in Detroit

A Baltimore food sovereignty activist and organizer comes to Detroit to highlight similarities and share lessons.

There are several things that Detroit and Baltimore have in common — but one of the biggest similarities is the shared challenge around food access and equity.

Eric Jackson is the founder and Servant-Director of Black Yield Institute, a food sovereignty organization based in Baltimore. He’s in Detroit to give a talk and show his documentary titled, “Baltimore’s Strange Fruit.” Jackson tells WDET’s Annamarie Sysling about his group’s work in Baltimore, his documentary and explains the term “food apartheid.”

The film screening and lecture is today from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Vanguard Community Development Corporation. Admission is free.
