2019 Mackinac Policy Conference: Sen. Stabenow On Judiciary, Asian Carp Solutions
Senator Stabenow joins Stephen Henderson to discuss the current state of the Senate and the steps necessary for unified progression
There has been a lot of frustration this week from Democrats — both in the Senate and the House — about the lack of legislating happening in the Senate.
It might not be a story we hear a lot about, but the Senate is essentially at a stand-still right now.
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) joins Detroit Today from the 2019 Mackinac Policy Conference to speak about the Senate’s new normal and what that means for proposed legislation. They also discuss the newfound youth of the Senate and the approach these newcomers are introducing to judicial confirmations. “They’re just pumping these folks through that are going to radically change our third branch of government essentially,” says Stabenow
Stabenow also shares her thoughts on the bipartisan effort to prevent Asian Carp from infesting the Great Lakes. Methods range from the implementation of electric barriers to sound systems created specifically to ward off the incoming invasive species.
“Now we just have to get this funded and get it done as soon as possible,” says Stabenow.
The Senator further reflects on auto reform and the need for improvement of infrastructure at the state and national levels. “High speed internet is infrastructure…. [It is] absolutely essential to the economy,” says Stabenow.
