Jazz at DTE’s Beacon Park Concert Series Kicks Off This Friday

Jazz at DTE’s Beacon Park concert series kicks off this Friday, May 17th at 7p.m.  The first concert will feature two bands from the Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation- Jazz Goes to College Combo Competition. The winner of the competition, Heartland Trio from Indiana University and runner up, The Becoming Quintet out of Michigan State University will both perform 45-minute sets. WDET’s Sam Beaubien sat down with the Jazz Festivals President and Director of Jazz at Wayne State University, Chris Collins, about the performance and the importance of Jazz education in the city of Detroit.
