WDET presents Ann Delisi’s Essential Conversations podcast.

Hosted by Detroit storyteller Ann Delisi, this interview series recognizes the creative spirit of local and national celebrities.

In each episode, Delisi sits down with local and nationally recognized professionals in the fields of music, news and the arts for insightful conversations exploring their work and inspiration.

In episode three, Delisi speaks with jazz drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding. They talk about teaching, performing, and being women in jazz.

“There’s something about being in the company and the presence of musicians that you know have more experience than you,” says Spalding. “It, kind of, pulls out more of your musicianship.”

“We’re in a society where people are used to being fed…it’s not leaving enough up to imagination,” adds Carrington.
