Current and Former Secretaries of State Talk Transparency To Kick Off Sunshine Week

It’s sunshine week, a time where we talk about making government and politics more transparent.

Wayne State University

Current Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is pursuing major transparency reforms, including an effort to make sure all money in politics is disclosed.

She joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about her efforts and her mission to visit every SOS branch in the state.

Henderson also speaks with the previous secretary of state, Ruth Johnson, who now represents Michigan’s 14th state Senate district in the Legislature. Johnson talks about her reaction to Benson’s proposals, her own efforts to make Michigan more transparent, and the debate in Lansing over road funding and the budget.
