There will be a lot to unpack as soon as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer begins her first State of the State address on Tuesday night. This administration represents a major crossroads in Michigan policy and politics.

Will we continue in the direction we’re headed in terms of the economy, the environment, education, and other key areas that matter deeply to Michigan residents?

Will a Democrat in the governor’s office mean a complete reversal in some or all of these areas?

We may get a sense of that from the State of the State speech itself. In the meantime, what role do Michigan residents hope a new governor will take on these issues?

Cheyna Roth and Jake Neher speak with a business owner in Detroit, an environmental justice activist, and a pair of teachers in an hour-long special edition of MichMash. And they preview the State of the State address itself with Gongwer news service editor Zach Gorchow, who has covered many of these speeches.

You can hear live coverage of the State of the State Address hosted by Cheyna Roth and WDET’s Laura Weber Davis on 101.9FM Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
