Detroit Design Festival has made the move from a week-long series of events into the Detroit Month of Design — an entire month that celebrates the city’s role in modern design across an array of mediums and applications.
The citywide celebration will explore Detroit’s global role in design throughout September with a wide range of lectures, art exhibitions and events like Eastern Market After Dark that opens up the doors to maker spacers that the public often doesn’t have access to.
Design Core Detroit is the producer of the event. Design Core Detroit executive director Olga Stella says the city’s design scene reflects the local community.
“Design in Detroit is so influenced by local culture,” says Stella. “One of the things that’s exciting about what’s happening in Detroit is the diversity of the community here and the many ways that people with all different types of backgrounds … are using design to improve their community.”
