Framed by WDET is an audio-visual project featuring stories of communities who have a rich legacy in and around Detroit, but are often under- or misrepresented in the media and arts.
In The Dress Show, storyteller Courtney Hurtt and photographer Kenny Karpov highlight the competitive market of dress shops in the city of Hamtramck. Each shop owner shares in common their style of merchandise– Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cultural wear. Through colorful portraits of people with their garments and conversations with the local shop owners, The Dress Show illuminates the challenges of being an entrepreneur.
