Study Finds Dramatic Drop in Percentage of Blacks Who Own Homes in Michigan
A study by the DC-based Urban Institute finds that Michigan had the biggest drop in the percentage of African American homeowners of any state in the U.S. Detroit used to boast one of the highest rates of black homeownership before the foreclosure crisis.

A newly-released study finds that the percentage of African Americans who own their own home dropped more in Michigan than in any other state.
The report, by the Washington, D.C.-based Urban Institute, notes that there used to be more African American homeowners in Detroit than almost anywhere else in the country.
But the co-author of the study, researcher Carl Hedman, says the foreclosure crisis changed the equation drastically.
