Flower Day in Eastern Market is an unofficial holiday in Detroit. The annual event has been celebrated on the Sunday after Mother’s Day for more than 50 years.

Organized by Eastern Market and the Metropolitan Detroit Flower Growers Association, the specialty market includes over 15 acres of flower variety from across the Midwest and Ontario.

WDET’s Amanda LeClaire spoke with Erin Murphy of the Eastern Market Corporation about what to expect.

Murphy says she’s fascinated by the amount of flowers at the market.

“They have three, four, up to five (semi-trucks) that they bring in,” she says.

The specialty market opens at 7:00am.
