Midwest Literary Walk

Detroiter Michael Eric Dyson is a professor and author whose assessments of America’s original sins and our struggles to overcome them are always blunt and inspiring.

Dyson’s most recent book, Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White Americans, is at once a lecture and a soulful call to action.

He is a featured speaker at this weekend’s Midwest Literary Walk in Chelsea and will be speaking at the Main Street Church at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Dyson speaks with Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson about what he’s trying to say with his new book.

One of the main purposes of the book is to help white people see “how we as a nation have refused to engage in a serious and sustained conversation about just what the exact and precise consequences of racial tyranny are,” Dyson says.
