Why Should You Care About March Madness

WDET’s Bre’Anna Tinsley asks Metro Detroiters what they enjoy most about March Madness.

Upsets. Seeds. First round, Second round, Elite Eight. Final Four. These terms mean nothing to me. So, when I was assigned to cover a story about March Madness I had no idea what I was going to do. And when I started, I honestly didn’t care much about the event. Why should I? Why do people even care about a bunch of college kids chasing that orange ball? When most of them won’t even make it to the NBA? So, I went out and asked a few fans why they are excited.

March Madness begins Thursday. Michigan State will play its first game here in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena on Friday, March 16 at 7:10 pm.

Sports to me is the last great reality show. It’s not just the games. The games are exciting enough. But it’s the storylines. If you take a little bit of time to get to know the characters and you get to know the players and you get to know the teams you read up a little bit and you see their stories. And what’s led to those games then it becomes a more meaningful experience.
