Sam’s Jams 005: Words and music with Detroit artist Xavier Jack

Sam Beaubien is WDET’s Creative Director and longtime bandleader for the Detroit funk + soul group Will Sessions. He’s been playing music for more than 20 years and is also an avid record collector.

Xavier Jack is an 18-year-old Hip-hop artist from Detroit. In 2016, legendary Detroit artist Amp Fiddler spotted him at Dilla Youth Day and invited Xavier to come work in his studio. Similar to the mentoring Amp Fiddler did with J Dilla, Xavier has been practicing and recording in the basement studio at Amp’s house. I sat down with Xavier last week and we talked about first meeting Amp Fiddler and his new album Kxngrxse, which came out January 26th, 2018.
