Royal Oak neighborhood ponders future of road blocks

Royal Oak City Commissioners are looking at changes in a South End neighborhood that might affect how drivers get to the city’s downtown area. The City commissioned a study on road barriers – or berms – that divert traffic through a neighborhood in the area. That’s an area bordered by Ten Mile Road, Mohawk Avenue, Lincoln Avenue and Knowles Street or the train tracks.

Royal Oak’s traffic committee held a meeting January 23, 2018, for the public to make its comments. Over the course of two hours, 18 residents told the committee they disapprove of the study, leading the traffic committee to unanimously vote to keep the berms in place.

The Royal Oak City Commission will determine the future of the berms with a vote on February 26th. The first part of that meeting is reserved for public comment.
