DHD is Giving Free Hepatitis A Vaccines on Monday

The Detroit Health Department is giving free Hepatitis A vaccines one Monday, Jan 29.

The Detroit Health Department is giving out free Hepatitis A vaccines on Monday at the Samaritan Center.

There has been an outbreak of the disease across Southeast Michigan, with almost 154 cases in Detroit.

Doctor Joneigh Khaldun heads the department. She says many of the cases are people who were at high risk of catching the disease.

“So they may have trouble with substance abuse disorders, they may be homeless or have transient living situations, or they may already have a liver disease, and Hepatitis is a liver disease,” Khaldun says.

Khaldun says vaccines are the best way to prevent Hepatitis A, but the virus can also be prevented by frequently washing hands.

The All Day Clinic will be held Monday, January 29th. Hours from 10 Am to 8 PM.
