Oakland County is looking for boaters to help test lake water quality.

The county’s Board of Commissioners is partnering with the “Michigan Clean Water Corps” to train volunteers in monitoring lakes.

Commissioner Marcia Gershenson says volunteers will collect samples to test for dangerous chemicals in the water.

We want residents to understand the harmful effects of their lawn fertilizer, and to be cautious about washing their boats,” Gershenson says.  “And then, of course, we’re very concerned about the runoff, the chemical runoff from the roads.”

Gershenson says the program will train residents how to collect water samples for testing.

She says the program will also help identify invasive species.
