Jessica Care Moore is a poet from Detroit who, years ago, caught the attention of an elite circle of artists with roots in Brooklyn.
She made local headlines this year, winning a Knight Arts Challenge grant, and also as the voice of a viral video (see below) pitching the city of Detroit for the Amazon’s second North American headquarters.
In the last week of 2017, Detroit Today talks with a number of Michigan natives who have had stand-out years.
Jessica Care Moore joins the program to talk about her year, her career, and her work as it moves into 2018.
“I’m a black woman and unapologetically black,” says Care Moore. “I’m all about Detroit, not all about just new Detroit, I’m all about old Detroit and the Detroit that raised me.”
