Michigan Opera Theatre Previews New Season with Live Performance from WDET

Michigan Opera Theatre Soprano Hae Ji Chang performs live at WDET

The Michigan Opera Theatre’s new season is underway at the Detroit Opera House.

Detroit Today producer Jake Neher recently spoke with the MOT’s principal conductor Stephen Lord about what’s in store this fall.

What I want to do is create cohesive productions,” says Lord, “that people are all working together in a beautiful way to give a homogenized… exciting performance that will… better the lives of the people who come to see it.”

Our point now is to get people who are so dulled out by their iPhones and their iPads and being on computers all day long, is to get them to feel something,” Lord says.

To come and participate and applaud and hopefully we’ll move you in a way that lets us know that there’s something bigger out there.”

Soprano Hae Ji Chang, who plays Gilda in the Opera Theatre’s current production of Rigoletto, also performs from a piece live in-studio at WDET, accompanied by MOT principal coach Tessa Hartle.
