You might know the name “Tank and the Bangas” from NPR — the band won NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert competition with a video that was fun, captivated, and went viral. This week Tank and the Bangas — a soul group from New Orleans — made a tour stop in Detroit for a sold out show. Before the show they stopped here at WDET for an in-studio performance.

After playing in the studio, Detroit Today producer Laura Weber-Davis speaks with the band’s lead vocalist, Tarriona “Tank” Ball.

“Before the Tiny Desk happened, we (were) doing shows in New Orleans and doing shows in New York. Driving 21 hours in one car,” says Ball. “Really just, honestly, trying to make it. We started touring really early and always just, kind of, thinking about the next move.”
