Why Doesn’t the Woodward Dream Cruise Come South of 8 Mile?

It’s a simple question with a complicated answer that ranges from the history of cruising culture in metro Detroit as well as economics, race and crime. Regardless of why the largest single-day car event in the world doesn’t grace the streets of the Motor City, officials for both the Woodward Dream Cruise and the City of Detroit say that it’s possible the cruise could stretch to downtown Detroit as soon as next year in 2018.

In the meantime, events like Detroit Car Week and Cruisin’ in the D offer an outlet for city-centric car lovers to cruise Detroit city proper.

CultureShift wants to hear from you: do you want the Woodward Dream Cruise to come south of 8 Mile and into Detroit city limits? You can all the CultureShift line at 313-577-3414 and leave us a voicemail letting us know your name, city you’re calling from and why or why not the Woodward Dream Cruise should come to Detroit. We’ll be featuring your answers on air on Monday, August 21.
