The Detroit Jewish News Celebrates 75 Years

Launched just a few months after the U.S. entrance in World War II, the Detroit Jewish News has published weekly for 75 years. Its pages — and now website — have carried stories about global conflict and international human rights issues as well as articles that tell the personal stories of its metro Detroit readers.

Detroit Jewish News

The paper has been a mobilizing force for the local Jewish community, advocated for social change and been a player in the media market. It has reflected Detroit history, as told through the Jewish residents, and it will continue to look forward and cover the continued influence and importance of its community, says Publisher and Executive Editor Arthur Horwitz.

WDET works in partnership with the Detroit Jewish News as part of the Detroit Journalism Cooperative.

Horwitz joined WDET’s Sandra Svoboda for a series of conversations on Detroit Today and on CultureShift.

Heard on Culture Shift: Danny Raskin, now 98, has published in every issue of the Detroit Jewish News since it began publishing. Here are a few samples of Raskin’s recent work:

On the importance of neighborhood restaurants

On the new Chef’s Table 12 restaurant

On pickles — and who doesn’t love pickles?
