The Music Behind The DIA D-Cyphered Exhibition

The “D-Cyphered: Portraits by Jenny Risher” photo exhibit opened last week at the DIA. The gallery traces the history of hip hop in Detroit and contains photographs of the artists who have shaped the sounds of rap and hip hop in the motor city.

Because this is a photo exhibit of musicians, it’s only right there’s an album to go with it. Multi-platinum producer Nick Speed has been involved with the project since the early stages and was commissioned to create an album to go with the gallery.

In order to make a 3-D experience, I was hired to…create a mix of all original music, so I made a whole completely brand-new album,” he says.
