As we lead up to the 50th anniversary of the social unrest in Detroit in the summer of 1967, the Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers is inviting people to tell their stories of the night the violence began.
Satori Shakoor is the host of the Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers. She is also the host of WDET’s Twisted Storytellers podcast.
Shakoor talks with Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson about some of the themes that have emerged when talking with people about the 1967 uprising.
“Each (of the storytellers) have a memory, each have an experience,” says Shakoor. “No way do these five stories or storytellers can tell the whole thing, but when we put all five of them together we begin to see some recurring themes.”
