Detroit Bike Share’s program saw double the expected ridership in their first week.

The system, called “MoGo,” launched last week with 43 stations and 430 bikes in many city neighborhoods.

Executive Director Lisa Nuszkowski says more than four thousand rides have been recorded.

I think that was partly influenced by the long holiday weekend, having good weather, having major activities going on downtown over the weekend,” Nuszkowski says. “But even then we are seeing really solid numbers throughout the week as well.”

Nuszkowski says she thinks the turnout is a sign that people really wanted and needed another mobility option.

She says the program is exploring plans to expand across the city.
