Comedian Louie Anderson has had a long and varied career — from serving as host of the Family Feud TV game show, to playing Zach Galifianakis’ mother on the FX Series “Baskets.” Anderson will headline the third annual event benefitting the Make Your Date program which combats preterm birth in Detroit. The event will take place on Saturday at the Fillmore Detroit. Mayor Mike Duggan will serve as honorary chairman of the gala fundraiser.
Louie Anderson speaks with Detroit Today producer Jake Neher about his interest in the issue of preterm birth, which starts with the death of five siblings shortly after their births.
Anderson’s discusses his family and the impact that the idea of family has had on his work and career.
“I have a special place in my heart of this,” Anderson says, “My parents tell me it’s all about what you do for other people and how much do you help other people.”
Anderson discusses the event, which is in its third year. According to Anderson, 5,500 women have used the program thus far.
