Detroit Board Visits Florida Superintendent’s Schools

Three members tour schools run by superintendent finalist Nikolai Vitti.

Detroit school board members are in Florida visiting facilities run by one of the finalists for superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

The board is considering Duvall County Florida superintendent Nikolai Vitti to run Detroit’s public schools. Board Members Angelique Peterson-Maybury, Lamar Lemmons and Deborah Hunter-Harvill have visited several schools in Vitti’s district. Stops included a school designed for dyslexic students, another that serves students with autism and one that focuses on students who are significantly older than other students in their grade.

Vitti is a Dearborn Heights native who says he would only leave his current position for a chance to come “home” and turn Detroit schools around.
