Detroit Superintendent Candidate Drops Out

Days before a scheduled daylong interview in Detroit, one of the three finalists for superintendent of Detroit’s public schools said he will no longer seek the position.

Orlando Ramos has been the regional superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools for less than two years. He withdrew from consideration for the job with the Detroit Public Schools Community District Thursday after being selected as one of three finalists for the superintendent position in Saint Paul Minnesota.

Ray and Associates, the search firm used by DPSCD and Saint Paul Public Schools, recommended Ramos for both positions.

Ramos was also among the top three candidates for superintendent in Allentown, Pennsylvania last fall.

The two remaining candidates for Detroit are Derrick Coleman — superintendent of River Rouge Schools and Nikolai Vitti — superintendent in Duvall County Florida.
