Michigan K-12 students and parents are preparing for spring break in a few weeks. For lots of people that means getting away to somewhere warmer and sunnier than Michigan in April. But there are still many beautiful things in our own state to consider, even in the spring.

Joining Stephen Henderson on Detroit Today to discuss these opportunities are the guys from Under the Radar: Michigan — Host Tom Daldin and Executive Producer Jim Edelman.

Daldin and Edelman talk about a number of places in Michigan that are great for a day trip, such as Belle Isle. They say they love to talk about less-known places close to Michigan’s shoreline, but sometimes get mixed reactions from locals who don’t want see their favorite beaches taken over by tourists.

“We’ve got so much shoreline in this state,” Edelman says. “There are so many of those hidden beaches that people get freaked out when we show up with cameras.”

Another great place to visit, Daldin mentions, is Marine City, which is featured in Season Three of UTR.

Daldin and Edelman also discuss other must-see locations, restaurants, zoos, Meijer’s Garden in Grand Rapids, the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, the Ann Arbor Museum of Natural History, the DIA and other favorite Michigan spots.
