Journalist Chad Livengood Talks About Leaving Lansing To Cover Detroit
“I’m going to look at it from two perspectives — what’s working and what’s not working,” says Livengood.
One of Michigan’s best state Capitol reporters is leaving Lansing.
Chad Livengood of the Detroit News has built a reputation for breaking big stories and doing some of the most dogged reporting anywhere in the state. He’s played a significant role in holding some of our most powerful public officials accountable.
Fortunately for us, he’s not headed to New York or down to Washington D.C.
He’s headed to Crain’s Detroit Business to “launch a new beat designed to cover the multifaceted story of Detroit rising — the fledgling and uncertain effort to restore the city’s economic, cultural and political vibrancy,” as Crain’s describes Livengood’s role at the publication.
Livengood says he’ll draw from his experience covering Detroit’s bankruptcy for the News.
“I always had a desire coming out of that 16 month grind to do something a little different and write about the city in a different way,” says Livengood. “I feel there can’t be enough written about it.”
He says his coverage of Detroit’s “turnaround” will be broad and critical, when necessary.
“I’m going to look at it from two perspectives — what’s working and what’s not working,” he says. “There is certainly a part of the city that is not still working on many fronts.”
