Southfield Hosts Veterans Day Celebration

The City of Southfield will honor the US military at its annual Veterans Day Ceremony today.

The City of Southfield is hosting its annual Veteran’s Day celebration today.

The celebration follows the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States.

Trump made comments about struggles that veterans face, which some disapproved of during in his campaign.

Southfield Director of Community Relations Michael Manion says in light of those comments and the election results, he hopes the ceremony will keep its focus where it matters–on the vets.

“This day is really about honoring the service and sacrifice of our military personnel, all the many men and women who have served our country honorably,” Manion says. “So we really hope to have the spotlight on them, rightfully so, and to recognize their service to our country.”

Manion says the event is an opportunity to give back to veterans.

The event begins at 11 AM at Southfield City Hall.
