Howell Nature Center Sees High Number of Injured, Orphaned Animals

So many that the wildlife clinic is closed this week.

The Howell Nature Center is taking in a record number of orphaned and injured wild animals this year. The wildlife clinic is closed until August 29 so staff and volunteers can catch up. Wildlife Director Dana DeBenham tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the clinic has handled 2,355 cases from January 1 through July 31. She says part of the reason is a declining number of licensed animal rehabilitators. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
