Michigan’s 10th Congressional District: David VanAssche

Retired Air Force One mission commander cites military and business background.

One of the Republican candidates in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District primary election is a military veteran. David VanAssche enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1987, served in both Iraq wars, and was the Chief Mission Director of Air Force One. As a veteran, VanAssche says he understands the threats facing the U.S., especially that of terrorism. He says the country is no safer today than it was seven years ago.

“We’ve had attacks in Fort Hood, Chattanooga, San Bernardino, Boston, and now, most recently, Orlando. This threat needs to be eradicated and eliminated, swiftly and accurately,” Van Assche says.

After retiring from the Air Force, VanAssche joined Navitas, a renewable energy company, as an executive vice president. He describes himself as a “servant leader” who would put the needs of others above his own if he’s elected. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
