Detroit Chief OK with Private Security Policing Downtown

Detroit’s police chief says private guards that look and act like cops enhance a city’s overall security situation.

A recent security breach at the Coleman Young Municipal Center, Detroit’s City Hall, is shining a spotlight on the use of private companies to safeguard public offices in the city.

Many establishments in Detroit employ private security that looks, and sometimes acts, like police officers.

And Detroit Police Chief James Craig tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter private security can be a big help, not a hindrance, to law enforcement.
