Former Detroit Mayor Bing Remembers Ali, Questions Rising Demolition Costs

Ex-Detroit Mayor Bing says Ali was committed to helping others. Bing also wonders why cost of erasing blight is spiking.

Groups supporting the “My Brother’s Keeper” Initiative are meeting in Detroit this week.

And they are hailing the humanitarian efforts of the late boxer Muhammad Ali.

One person who saw Ali’s work first-hand is fellow former star pro athlete, and ex-Detroit Mayor, Dave Bing.

He’s been in the news recently regarding the cost of demolishing blighted buildings in Detroit which has skyrocketed since Bing left office in January, 2014.

Bing talked about demolition work and the efforts of Ali with WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter.
