Feds say Syrian Refugees Bring Benefits to Metro Detroit

Each year on this day the United Nations celebrates what it calls World Refugee Day, with events scheduled in more than 100 countries.

The latest influx of refugees to the U.S. has become a political issue for both presidential candidates and officials in Metro Detroit.

Experts say the majority of the 10,000 Syrian refugees the U.S. wants to admit this year will likely resettle in Michigan.

So U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Heather Higginbottom tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the need to dispel what she calls “misconceptions” about refugees is more vital now than ever before.
