EPA Says Flint Must Address Concerns Over Chlorine

EPA says the city of Flint does not have adequate chlorine in its water to safeguard system during the summer.

The Environmental Protection Agency is reportedly warning officials in Flint that the city may not be prepared to adequately treat its water with chlorine this summer.

Researchers say Flint appears to have enough chlorine in its water system at the moment.

But the Detroit News reports that federal officials fear Flint may not have enough chlorine present to keep its water system safe during the summer, when warmer weather causes chlorine to decay and the demand for water increases.

The EPA wants Flint to add extra chlorination equipment to its main water treatment plant.

The federal agency says a temporary system to introduce more chlorine into Flint’s water supply should be put in place by the end of this week.
