Newsweek: Dirty Air Killing Metro Detroiters

Newsweek charges that air near Detroit is so bad it’s killing people.

A recent story in Newsweek magazine reports that the air pollution is so bad in Detroit that it could kill someone.

Specifically, the article describes the situation in River Rouge, quoting figures that large numbers of people in the downriver town are suffering from severe asthma.

The article’s author, Newsweek Senior Writer Zoe Schlanger, says the health problems affect people of color in particular.

Schlanger tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the situation is so dire that it led her to write an article she initially never intended to.
