Detroit Water Director Says City Targeting Past-Due Business Owners
Detroit officials, blasted for shutting-off water to residents behind on bills, are now aiming at commercial accounts.
Recent published reports say the city of Detroit shut off water service to more than 20,000 residents behind on utility payments last year, but turned off the taps of less than 700 commercial customers in arrears.
But the Director of Detroit’s Water and Sewerage Department, Gary Brown, says the city is readjusting its focus.
Brown tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the first priority for the department now is to collect payments from past-due business and government-owned properties.
